Water quality in the River Clyde: a case study of additive and interaction models
نویسندگان
چکیده
Additive models are widely used to provide very flexible and effective descriptions of regression data where assumptions of linear relationships are too restrictive. However, these models usually assume independent errors and there are many applications where the data are correlated. This is often true in environmental settings and an application to water quality modelling in the River Clyde is described. Methods of fitting and analysing an additive model in this setting are discussed. An approach which fits an additive model in the usual way but incorporates the correlated error structure into the assessment of components is described. The methods are applied to the Clyde data to identify the factors which affect water quality, as well as spatial and temporal trends. Interaction terms, which allow the effects of explanatory variables to change smoothly with position down the river, are also explored. Particular emphasis is placed on approximate F tests to identify the most suitable models and the presence and nature of particular covariate effects.

Determining the best water quality model for the rivers in north of Iran (case study: Pasikhan River)
The aim of this paper is to study the popular models used for the simulation of major elements of a water quality system. The present study compares results of the CE-QUAL-W2 model with the WASP5 and MIKE11 models to assess the water quality of Pasikhan River. The contaminant loadings of Nitrate and Phosphate are utilized in the CE-QUAL-W2, WASP5 and MIKE11 simulations. This study is the first ...

متن کاملA Case Study of Water Quality Modeling of the Gargar River, Iran
Human activities in the recent years have considerably increased the rate of water pollution in many regions of the world. In this case study, the main sources of wastewater discharging into the Gargar River were identified. Using river and point source flow rates and water quality parameters measured along the river, the river water quality was simulated using a commonly used, one-dimensional ...
متن کاملAn Improvement on the Estimation of River ECs using ANN Models and ANFIS involving PCA Analysis, Case Study; Nekarood River, IRAN
Estimation of changes in water quality parameters including electrical conductivity along a river is essential. In this paper, ANN and ANFIS-SC were used to estimate the ECs of the Nekarood River, North Iran, from 1992-2013. The study period was divided into two periods of dry and wet, based on the river flow rate. Then, Using the PCA, the effective parameters in EC estimation were determined...
